PATHOLOGY

The anatomic pathology department at KCMC has provided patient services, research and education since 1971. We receive surgical specimens from over 50 hospitals in Tanzania, performing about 35% of the examinations done in Tanzania. Cytology specimens come mostly from KCMC and fine needle aspiration samples obtained by our pathologists. Post-mortem examinations are limited to KCMC clinical cases and medical-legal cases. A staff of 11 currently provide specimen processing, diagnosis, filing of slides and blocks in archives, production and distribution of reports, education and morgue activities.

Education activities are primarily with medical students in their second and third years, Masters of Medicine candidates, AMO's and other allied health students.
